Birmingham are expected to complete the signing of Cardiff defender Roger Johnson once personal terms have been agreed.

The 26-year-old is understood to be close to sealing a £20,000-a-week deal with the Premier League new boys, after Blues and Cardiff finally came to an agreement over the fee and the method of payment.

Bluebirds chairman Peter Ridsdale would not confirm the details of the transfer, but told the Echo: "We have a substantial part of the fee paid up front and now we need to work smartly to get players in as we did when we first signed Roger.

"Roger made it clear to us that he wanted to move to the Premiership and we said as long as we had the right valuation then that would be possible.

"Every player has a price. You only have to look at Ronaldo."
