Cardiff are back on the trail of France international striker Bafetimbi Gomis after Lyon made it clear they are set to sell him.
Malky Mackay is in a battle for the 27-year-old with arch-rivals Swansea but Gomis has made it clear that he wants to stay in France and turned down an offer from the Swans.
Lyon subsequently left the striker out of the party travelling to their pre-season training camp in Tignes and manager Remi Garde insists financial reasons are forcing him to part ways with the 27-year-old.
He told L'Equipe: "The decision to exclude him was taken in consultation with the President (Jean-Michel Aulas).
"It is with a heavy heart that we embarked on this, but there are significant economic imperatives for the club. I hope we will find a solution that will satisfy both parties."
