Alex McLeish has confirmed that Birmingham wanted to sign Celtic defender Bobo Balde but were priced out of a move for the player.
The Blues boss held talks with the strapping central defender in the hope of doing a deal but was unable to match his personal terms and the player will stay with Celtic for now.
"Bobo would be ideal for the team that I am building to get us to the Premier League but he is out of our reach in terms of finance," McLeish told the club's website.
"I am fine with that. I know we have limitations on how far we'll go and I wish Bobo all the best in whatever he chooses."
