McGhee eyes Bhoys starlet

CelticMark McGhee has admitted that he would like to take Celtic defender John Kennedy to Motherwell on a loan deal.

The Well boss is hopeful of securing the services of the youngster after Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan confirmed that he would like to loan him out for a season to gain some valuable first-team experience.

However Motherwell are unable to meet Celtic's demand to pay Kennedy's full wages for the year which is proving to be a huge stumbling block.

"It seems a simple enough thing to get done but we seem to be finding it difficult between the two executives," said McGhee.

"We can't, apparently, afford the full amount, so we're haggling to see if we can make it any less."

On Norwich's reported interest, McGhee added: "John wants to come here and has made that absolutely clear but at the moment we have not come to an agreement.

"I don't think Norwich is a red herring but unless Celtic are prepared to compromise or we are prepared to find the full amount he'll probably end up there."
