Strachan joy at title success

CelticGordon Strachan said winning the SPL title for third season in a row was a fantastic achievement for Celtic and their supporters.

A 1-0 win on Thursday night over Dundee United at Tannadice thanks to a Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink header on 72 minutes meant that Strachan's side pipped Rangers - who crashed 2-0 at Aberdeen - to the domestic crown.

"This has been one of the most fantastic occasions of my life," said Strachan.

"We had a challenge and accepted it and I want to celebrate it with guys who believed in me and who I believed in."

Strachan is the first Hoops boss since the legendary Jock Stein to win three successive titles back in 1974, but when asked whether it is possible he could still leave the club, chairman John Reid said: "I certainly hope it isn't because one thing that is absolutely clear is that from the board down, from our major shareholder right through to the vast majority of fans, we have supported Gordon Strachan because he has delivered for this football club."
