Strachan reveals deal hopes

CelticCeltic boss Gordon Strachan insists he is active in the transfer market and admits he wants to strengthen his squad this week.

The Bhoys have struggled to boost their options this summer with only two players - Georgios Samaras and Pat McCourt - arriving at Parkhead.

But Strachan hopes to pull off some deals in the next seven days as the SPL champions gear up to start their title defence against St Mirren on Sunday.

He said: "We are trying our best to sign players at the moment. (Chief executive) Peter Lawwell is active at the moment, working very hard.

"From the players' point of view I'm hopeful the squad can be added to before the start of the season. If it doesn't I get on with it.

"It's unfair to talk about targets. Let's just say we are active in quite a few places."

Celtic beat Feyenoord 3-1 at the De Kuip Stadium on Sunday in the Feyenoord Jubilee Cup and conclude their pre-season build-up with a home friendly against Manchester City on Wednesday.
