Addicks ace close to Baggies switch

CharltonWest Bromwich Albion have moved a step closer to signing Charlton defender Madjid Bougherra after reportedly agreeing a deal for him.

After revealing on Tuesday that Baggies boss Tony Mowbray was looking to hijack the 25-year-old French-born Algerian international stopper's proposed move to Spanish side Real Betis, it is claimed that the Premier League new boys have now come to an agreement with the Addicks.

It is thought West Brom will pay the Championship side around £2million for Bougherra's services and a deal will go through if the player can agree personal terms and pass a medical at the Hawthorns.

Meanwhile, ahead of the 1-0 friendly win at Northampton on Tuesday, in which South Korea international Do-Heon Kim scored the only goal of the game with a 36th-minute free-kick, it was reported that Mowbray is still looking to tie up a deal for 28-year-old Bolton defender Abdoulaye Meite.

It was thought Albion were not in the hunt for the central defender after Mowbray denied Bolton's claims he failed with a £1million bid, but it appears he would take Meite if a deal can be struck.
