Addicks eye defender swoop

CharltonCharlton boss Alan Pardew has confirmed he hopes to sign Sunderland defender Paul McShane before the window closes.

McShane has struggled for first-team football at the Stadium of Light since arriving from West Brom last summer and the arrival of Anton Ferdinand will push him even further out of the picture.

Pardew now wants to get him on board and hopes to sign him before midnight on Monday.

"There has been some interest between ourselves and Sunderland," said Pardew. "I think he's a good player and there will be a decision on him, perhaps in this window."
