Addicks swoop for Shrimpers ace

CharltonSouthend midfielder Nicky Bailey has completed his move to Charlton in a deal which could cost the Londoners £750,000.

The 24-year-old current Shrimpers player of the year, who scored 12 goals in 54 outings for the club, has been a target of Addicks boss Alan Pardew for some time this summer and is delighted to have finally pulled off the transfer.

Speaking following Charlton's shock 1-0 Carling Cup defeat against Yeovil at the Valley on Tuesday, Pardew told the club's website: "He's a young player that we have been tracking for some time.

"We felt it was an area we needed to strengthen, and Nicky comes into add to the competition with our other central midfield players.

"To score 12 goals in League Two is a good total, and I'm hoping he can repeat that kind of success with Southend here."
