The Premier League are to investigate Michael Turner's move from Hull to Sunderland which could mean a cash boost for the Addicks.
The deal which went through at the end of August for the 25-year-old centre half has never been revealed and the fee was officially undisclosed.
Both former clubs Brentford and Charlton are owed percentage sell on fees and they are looking for clarification as to the exact price of the player, who was publicly valued at £12m by both Paul Duffen and Phil Brown. Paul McShane was also part of the deal adding to the confusion.
Brentford director and acting CEO David Heath said: "We have previously written to the Football League requesting that they ask the Premier League to carry out a review of the transfer fee following the transfer of Michael Turner from Hull to Sunderland. We have a disagreement with Charlton Athletic concerning the sell-on clause and a percentage of the sell-on fee in question is being held by the Football League.
"Both clubs have previously received their percentages of the sell-on fee that were not in dispute.
"Brentford FC have submitted their statement of claim to the Football League and the matter will be resolved at a Football disciplinary hearing during the week commencing November 30."
