Baggies step up Addicks ace chase

CharltonWest Brom boss Tony Mowbray will now step up his efforts to land Charlton's Zheng Zhi following China's elimination from the Olympics.

The Addicks man is being widely tipped to play the defensive midfield role for the Baggies and a move could go through at some point next week.

The China international is not the only player wanted by the boss who admits it is a frustrating time in the transfer market, he told the Birmingham Mail: "It's only ever a phonecall away from us agreeing the fee, agreeing the transfer and getting the player and the agent in and getting it done," he said.

"Or some of them can be phonecall after phonecall, fax after fax and a bit of stalemate and then it's back on.

"You think you can get it done in a day or two but realistically it can drag on for days or weeks.

"Thankfully one or two that have been done since I've been here have been simple, generally because the people looking after the players have had a realism and they have looked after the players rather than having other motives."
