Defender issues Addicks pledge

CharltonCharlton defender Kelly Youga has vowed to fight for his place at the Valley and wants to become a first-team regular.

Youga impressed towards the end of last season after starting the campaign on loan at Scunthorpe and now hopes to earn a regular place in Alan Pardew's side.

"I'm used to fighting for my place so it's not a problem for me and I'm confident I will be the number one left-back," he told the club's official website.

"I've worked hard over the last three years so it's a good achievement for me to be handed a new contract. The staff have been good with me, especially Alan Pardew. He called me back from Scunthorpe and he gave me an opportunity in the first team.

"He's now given me a three-year contract and I think he would have been hurt if I hadn't signed because he has faith in me. I signed because I am loyal with people who are loyal with me."
