Controversial owner Roland Duchatelet has denied Charlton will become a feeder club to Standard Liege.

Duchatelet, who also owns the Belgian side, last week sacked manager Chris Powell after the pair clashed over transfers.

The Belgian businessman sold key players such as Yann Kermorgant and Dale Stephens in January and replaced them with a host of loanees from Standard, none of whom Powell picked in his starting line-up for his final game in charge.

Yet Duchatelet, who has since brought in countryman Jose Riga as head coach, insists fans' fears over the future of the club are unfounded.

In a video interview on the club's website, he said: "In fact now we are bringing in players from Standard Liege to help Charlton, not the other way around.

"So it's a bit crazy, the comment in the media saying you are going to bring the best Charlton players to Liege.

"The reason I said it was in my (first) press conference people said 'all the time you are signing players from Standard Liege' and I explained that one day, if some players would like to come to Liege, it also may happen.

"It is not a one-way thing, it has been misinterpreted. It's not serious to say Charlton is becoming some kind of satellite club for Liege."
