One out - one in Addicks return

CharltonBen Thatcher looks set to leave Charlton this summer, while striker Marcus Bent has returned as loan club Wigan opted not to buy him.

Addicks boss Alan Pardew had been in talks about extending 32-year-old full-back Thatcher's stay at the Valley beyond the end of this month. However the South London Press claims the defender would not agree to having his terms reduced and is now almost certain to move on.

The news means Pardew will now hand the left-back spot to Kelly Youga in the new Championship season following his decision to sign a new contract last month.

Meanwhile 30-year-old Bent will be back at the Valley after Wigan decided against paying £1million to turn his loan move to the JJB Stadium into a permanent arrangement.

Bent scored seven goals in 32 appearances in his season-long stay with the Latics, but failed to register in the final 18 matches of the campaign.

Charlton chairman Richard Murray told the South London Press: "Marcus will come back to the club as his loan spell has expired and he is one of a number of players who will be placed on the transfer list."
