Pardew happy with new recruit

CharltonCharlton boss Alan pardew says he is pleased with the way Nicky Bailey has settled in since his move to the Valley.

Bailey joined the Addicks from Southend United for an initial fee of £400,000 and has become an instant hit at the Valley.

After Charlton's 4-2 victory over Reading Pardew said: "Bailey was outstanding. He's jumping up a division and he's not that long out of non-league football so we've taken a big gamble on him.

"It's the only money I'm going to spend but he's lived up to every penny of the £400,000. He was brilliant for us."

The 24-year-old midfielder was playing for non-league side Sutton United until he moved to Barnet in 2004 before moving to Southend for just one season in July 2007.
