Pardew prepares to wield axe

CharltonAlan Pardew has confirmed that he is planning to make changes to his Charlton squad following a disappointing start to the season.

The Addicks crashed to an eighth defeat so far this term when Barnsley left the Valley with maximum points to leave them in the wrong half of the Championship table. Pardew is calling for a much improved display against Plymouth at Home Park on Saturday, but feels the only way to bring a consistent improvement will be to make some changes to personnel.

"I think in the next week, I'm going to make a couple of moves in the in and out department to give us a little boost," he told the club's official website.

"We've made a number of phone calls this week but, rather than make a rash decision, I've decided we'll approach it next week once I've had a long, hard think about it.

"There are a couple of weaknesses in the squad and we need to address them.

"We've got room, but maybe we'll have to sacrifice one or two to get a couple in."
