The Tractor Boys took the lead through Owen Garvan in the 37th minute, but Charlton hit back with a late equaliser from midfielder Nick Bailey, to leave Pardew relieved.
"Once we got the goal I did think you could see we looked a completely different side," said Pardew. "We are a team in recovery. Although we are fighting and trying to find ourselves, we could've nicked it at the end.
"I think we need a win. There's no doubt about that."
