Pards swoops for strike ace

Charlton have swooped to sign young Sunderland striker Martyn Waghorn on an initial one-month loan deal.

The highly-rated 18-year-old has only just returned to action following a serious knee injury and Black Cats boss Roy Keane wants him to go out on loan and get some action.

The Addicks are desperate for goals as they continue to struggle this season and Waghorn will go straight into the squad that takes on Sheffield United at The Valley this weekend.

Waghorn has made just five appearances for the Black Cats, with his only outing this season coming in the 5-0 defeat at Chelsea two weeks ago.

Waghorn becomes the latest player to leave the Stadium of Light on loan after Michael Chopra joined Cardiff and the situation will be reviewed once the month is up.
