Pards targets defender swoop

CharltonCharlton are still in the hunt for Portsmouth's Martin Cranie as Alan Pardew tries to strengthen his squad.

It has been a frustrating time for the Addicks boss who has had to sit back and watch a number of his best players leave the club but now he is hoping to welcome at least one new arrival.

"We've got players who want to come and managers who would probably welcomingly let the players come as well, but the finances have to weigh up and everybody is tight at the minute," Pardew revealed.

"The credit crisis has hit football, as it has hit everybody else, and people want value for their money. It is difficult negotiating at the moment. We are trying to do as best we can the best deal to get the best players we can in."
