Powell on trial with Cherries

CharltonFormer Charlton hero Chris Powell is on trial with Bournemouth and Cherries manager Kevin Bond has hinted at making the deal permanent.

The 28-year-old defender was not offered a new deal at the Valley at the end of last season and is currently looking for a new club, with League Two Bournemouth leading the way.

Bond believes that Powell will add the experience that his young squad is lacking and the former England international looks likely to sign at least a short term deal.

"This is definitely a here and now short-term situation if it were to happen," Bond told the Daily Echo.

"I've got two young boys potentially who are going to be playing centre-half, with potentially a young goalkeeper, so you are undoubtedly going to need some experience around them.

"He's such a good professional, he's a fitness fanatic, he's not a drinker and he's such a good influence that I just thought it was too good an opportunity for us to pass up."
