Charlton manager Chris Powell has agreed terms on a new contract - but is waiting for certain assurances from the club's new owner before he signs it.

Powell's current deal expires at the end of the season and the popular 44-year-old's future was thrown into doubt after the club was taken over by Belgian businessman Roland Duchatelet in January.

Duchatelet has since brought in a host of players from other clubs he owns, including Standard Liege, while key men like Dale Stephens and Yann Kermorgant were sold.

And Powell wants to hold further talks over the Addicks' new recruitment policy before putting pen to paper.

"Financially it took two minutes to agree, but the football side we haven't really clarified," he said.

"We have to work together and look to the future. There are a couple of areas we have to agree on - players and recruitment, so that's still in the melting pot.

"You've got to plan for the future and make sure the direction is right. That's important to me. It's ongoing so hopefully it will be resolved soon."
