Preston have eyes on Fortune

Charlton defender Jonathan Fortune is a target for Championship rivals Preston North End, according to reports.

North End boss Alan Irvine is desperate to strengthen his squad before the new season starts next month having made just one signing all summer - Aberdeen midfielder Barry Nicholson on a free transfer.

Irvine is keen for cover in defence after Neal Trotman joined Liam Chilvers on the casualty list following more hernia surgery and he revealed he hopes to announce at least one signing in the near future.

He told the Evening Post: "I've got a couple of plates spinning at the moment. Sadly we just don't seem able to complete anything just at this moment.

"There are a couple of things that could drop into place at any time."
