Varney has point to prove

CharltonCharlton striker Luke Varney has said he will make amends after a poor first season at The Valley.

Varney arrived from Crewe with a big reputation and hefty transfer price costing Charlton £2million. However he failed to fulfil his potential as the Addicks experienced a disappointing season, finishing mid-table in the Championship, while the striker managed just eight goals in his 39 league appearances.

Varney is now determined to put things right and aid Charlton in their push for a Premier League place.

"I've got a lot more to show the fans, and especially the manager. I was surprised at the level of performances required week in, week out, and although I did show flashes of what I can do, I wasn't consistent enough," said Varney.

"That's what I will be aiming for this year, to put it in on the pitch each and every week."
