Chelsea will battle it out with Tottenham and Russian side Anzhi to sign Udinese defender Mehdi Benatia, reports have claimed.

The Blues are said to be on the look-out for a new central defender in the summer and the tough-tackling Benatia is reported to be among the players being targeted.

Tottenham are also keen but the biggest threat is Anzhi as they have the funds to wrap up a deal, while the transfer window in Russia is open until February 24 so they could still push through a move.

The 25-year-old Moroccan international, who has impressed since arriving at Udinese back in 2010, is available for a fee in the region of £12.8million.
