Benfica put high price on Luiz

Chelsea have reportedly been told they must shell out at least £33million if they want to sign defender David Luiz from Benfica.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti has targeted Luiz as his top central defensive target this summer but faces competition from Real Madrid and Manchester City, who are also in the race to sign the highly-rated Brazilian.

Chelsea will hope they can secure a double raid on the Portuguese club by landing Luiz on top of the proposed deal, already thought to be agreed, to sign midfielder Ramires, which is expected to go through in the next week.

With Ricardo Carvalho tipped to rejoin former Blues boss Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and fellow centre-back Alex currently struggling with injury, Ancelotti is short on options at the back and will hold on to youngster Michael Mancienne, keen to seal a permanent switch to Wolves, until he has made at least one more signing.
