Chelsea are set to significantly raise their bid to £15m for Roma midfielder Daniele de Rossi to fend off interest from elsewhere.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reportedly views the experienced holding midfielder as vital to his plans at Stamford Bridge and is prepared to pay up to £15million to land him, amid interest from Man City and Paris Saint-Germain.
Roma do not want to sell their vice-captain but their hand may be forced if they receive a suitable offer and the 29-year-old is interested in teaming up with Mourinho.
Talks are believed to have been held between the two clubs amid suggestions of an initial £10m offer that is set to now be increased.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has handed Mourinho a huge transfer kitty following his return to the club and De Rossi is likely to be among his top targets, especially if John Obi Mikel leaves the west Londoners this summer as a replacement for him would need to be found.
