Blues miss out on Porto star

Last Updated: Thu, 06 Feb 2014 12:36

Valencia have pipped Chelsea to the signing of Porto's highly-rated defender Nicolas Otamendi for an initial £10million.

The 25-year-old was linked with a January transfer window move to Manchester United, while Chelsea were also said to be keen, but a deal failed to materialise.

Otamendi stayed put in Portugal but Spanish Primera Division outfit Valencia have now moved to tie up an agreement which will see the player move to Spain at the end of this season.

The former Velez Sarsfield stopper was also linked with Manchester City, but he has snubbed a move to England and will continue his career in La Liga.
