Chelsea are said to be keen on Benfica's defensive midfielder Javier Garcia, who is rated at £13million.

Carlo Ancelotti is said to be keeping tabs on the player but would face competion from Everton for the player's signature. Toffees boss David Moyes was impressed with the former Real Madrid midfielder when he saw him first hand in the two recent Europa League defeats to Benfica and he is said to be pondering an offer in the New Year.

Moyes will be hoping that Chelsea do not firm up their interest in a player who only moved to Benfica in July for just over £6m from Real Madrid but has already caught the eye of watching clubs.

He is represented by his father who claims he is paying no attention to the rumours about a possible move away from Portugal.

Garcia Sr said: "He is very happy at Benfica. He knows it's a phenomenal club and he's not thinking about leaving at the moment. We have not even talked about these rumours."
