Blues target Roma ace

Chelsea are being linked with a move for Roma midfielder Daniele de Rossi following a reported bust up at the Stadio Olimpico.

The midfielder is reported to have had a huge bust up with new Roma boss Zdenek Zeman and the Italian press claim he could be sold when the transfer window re-opens in January.

The 29-year-old insisted in the summer that he had no intention of leaving Roma but that has now changed after Zemen accused De Rossi of a lack of professionalism.

Chelsea are looking to reduce the average age of their squad but De Rossi is just the right side of 30 and Roberto Di Matteo could see him as the ideal replacement for Frank Lampard, who could leave at the end of the season.

Whether Chelsea would be willing to pay £20million for the player remains to be seen, while Manchester City are also long-time admirers and could enter the running for his signature.
