Chelsea will check on the fitness of Ashley Cole ahead of the Wigan game, while there are doubts over Petr Cech and Demba Ba.

Cole was replaced at half time as England beat Brazil 2-1 on Wednesday night after picking up hamstring and back problems. The injuries are not thought to be serious but Chelsea will not take any risks on the player and he will sit out if not fully fit.

Cech meanwhile is still struggling after fracturing a finger in last weekend's defeat at Newcastle and is likely to miss out, while Demba Ba is also touch and go.

The striker broke his nose against his former club but could still play with a protective facial mask.

Victor Moses will miss out against the club he left in the summer as he is still representing Nigeria at the African Nations Cup, along with John Obi Mikel.

Benitez will also check on the rest of his international brigade with the likes of David Luiz, Juan Mata and Cesar Azpilicueta all in action for Brazil and Spain respectively.
