Capello wants Lamps to stay

ChelseaEngland manager Fabio Capello has stated he wants Frank Lampard to stay at Chelsea next season rather than move to Italy.

Capello hopes that Lampard will turn down the chance to join Serie A giants Inter Milan who have made no secret of their desire to bring in the Blues midfielder.

Lampard himself has been rumoured to be interested in a move to the San Siro but the new England boss has urged the 30-year-old to stay put amid concerns over the amount of travelling he will have to do and believed it was in the best interest for England if he stayed at Stamford Bridge.

"I would prefer it if Lampard remained in England. He would have less travelling to do," he said.

Capello went on to lambaste the lack of English players currently taking part in the Premier League, saying that Italy's national coach Marcello Lippi had a greater pool to draw from.

"I'm worse off than Lippi, than everyone. I have Welsh players, Scottish, Irish," he continued.

"In the Premier League only 35 per cent of the players are English. In Italy it's about 72 per cent."
