Chelsea close on striker deal

Last Updated: Wed, 27 Nov 2013 14:24

Chelsea are reported to be closing in on a £33million deal for Porto striker Jackson Martinez.

The Blues have long been linked with a move for the Colombian international but reports now claim Jose Mourinho is close to striking a deal after the player's agent jetted into London to discuss the move.

Liverpool and Tottenham have also been tracking the 27-year-old, who has bagged 34 goals in 40 appearances for the Portuguese side, but Chelsea appear to have jumped to the head of the queue.

Martinez is under contract until 2016 so Chelsea will have to pay big bucks to land him, something they are prepared to do as Mourinho looks to end his search for a new striker.
