Chelsea have dismissed rumours suggesting Andre Villas-Boas' position is under threat following showdown talks with Roman Abramovich.

The Blues owner turned up at Cobham on Saturday to watch the players train ahead of the Manchester United game and press reports claimed he had talks with Villas-Boas later on to discuss his future.

However, Chelsea have played down the rumours and say Abramovich gets down to watch the players train whenever he can.

A club spokesman said: "Roman likes to get down to Cobham and watch training whenever he can. He was able to visit on Saturday and he and Andre had a good chat after the training session, which is normal."

Meanwhile, Villas-Boas also played down the meeting and says it was all positive as the club looks to move forward.

"We spoke about the preparation, of course, for the game," he added. "Roman is always very interested in the running of events and it was good for the team to feel his presence.

"We touched a little bit, of course, on next year's project but mainly on that game. Roman is a very educated person to the cause of Chelsea Football Club and his aura is always present."
