Chelsea are ready to move for Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos after Manchester United pulled out of a deal.
Kroos looked certain to be heading for Old Trafford after former United boss David Moyes lined up a summer swoop, but following his sacking and the arrival of Louis van Gaal, the deal looks to be off.
Van Gaal has other targets and has told United officials not to pursue a £20million deal, leaving the door open for Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to make his move.
Chelsea could try and land him in a cut-price deal this summer, but there have been suggestions that he could leave in 12 months when he will be available on a free transfer.
Kroos could see out the remainder of his contract with Bayern and then move, but he will have plenty of options and if Chelsea really want him they may have to act sooner.
