Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke after missing out on Edinson Cavani.
Benteke enjoyed a fantastic debut campaign in the Premier League last season and has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Atletico Madrid, amongst others, in recent weeks. And now fresh reports say Chelsea are also keen.
Villa boss Paul Lambert remains hopeful of keeping hold of Benteke for at least one more season and it has been suggested the club could resist offers in the region of £40million for the Belgian striker.
Chelsea, however, are desperate to add to their attack ahead of the coming campaign as new boss Jose Mourinho sees no place in his squad for January capture Demba Ba.
Fernando Torres has also been tipped to depart Stamford Bridge after a largely disappointing stay with Chelsea and the Blues appear set to miss out on Napoli star Cavani and Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, who are expected to join PSG and Bayern Munich respectively.
Mourinho has now seemingly set his sights on Benteke but Chelsea will have to pay a hefty fee to convince Villa to cash in on their star striker.
