Manchester United are set to offer Ashley Cole a 12-month deal in the hope of luring both him and Frank Lampard to Old Trafford.

Rumours that Lampard could be heading to United refuse to go away after Chelsea ruled out the possibility of him being offered a new deal and he could be joined by Cole.

Sir Alex Ferguson could lose both Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs to retirement at the end of the season and reports claim the Reds boss wants the experienced Cole and Lampard on board to help the youngsters at Old Trafford.

Cole like Lampard has plenty of offers in the pipeline with Paris St Germain known to be very keen but he may also be tempted to stay in the Premier League with United.

There are plenty of ifs, buts and maybes at the moment but United are ready to offer them both 12-month deals with the option of a second year if all goes according to plan.
