Chelsea duo Frank Lampard and Ryan Bertrand have been forced to pull out of the England squad through injury and illness.
Lampard has been struggling with a knee injury that he picked up against Norwich last Saturday and will miss Friday's clash with San Marino after he returned to Stamford Bridge for treatment.
The midfielder will link up with Roy Hodgson's men again on Sunday when he will be assessed ahead of next week's trip to Poland but if he is not fully fit, the Blues will pull him out again.
Meanwhile Bertrand has also returned to Chelsea after pulling out of the squad with what was originally described as a throat infection, but the player took to Twitter to reveal it is more than that.
"Just to clarify.... Its not a "sore throat" Im ill. Swollen glands in my neck... And constant headache for 3 days now and freezing cold," he revealed.
