Wolves could be ready to make a bid for Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne after being handed £10m to spend.

The England Under-21 star is impressing while on loan at Molineux and last month was called up to the England squad for the friendly clash against Germany.

Chelsea have insisted the youngster still has a future at Stamford Bridge but Wolves are going to try their luck with a January bid in the hope Luiz Felipe Scolari will sanction the deal.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will be handed £10m to guarantee they win promotion to the Premiership and Mancienne is high on his list of targets as soon as the window opens.

If Chelsea reject the bid they could still allow Mancienne the chance to stay at Wolves on loan for the rest of the season.
