Jose Mourinho has admitted he blocked Demba Ba's move to Arsenal because the Mesut Ozil signing made them title contenders.
The Gunners wanted to sign the Chelsea striker on loan and Mourinho was happy for a deal to happen until they snapped up Ozil from Real Madrid for £43million.
Mourinho knows Ozil very well having signed him for Real and he now believes that Arsenal are a genuine threat to Chelsea's chances of winning the title this season and did not want to help them any more by loaning them Ba.
"Ozil is unique," Mourinho said. "There is no copy of him - not even a bad one. He is the best No 10 in the world. He makes things very easy for me and for his team-mates with his football vision and the decisions he makes.
"Everyone loves him and sees a bit of Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane in him. We didn't accept Arsenal's offer for Demba Ba because the signing of Ozil makes them title contenders."
Tottenham were also in the hunt for Ba but a deal failed to happen and the striker ended up staying at Stamford Bridge.
