Mourinho ready to face title favourites

Last Updated: Sat, 26 Oct 2013 13:09

Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea are taking on the Premier League title favourites on Sunday as they prepare to host Man City.

The Portuguese tactician has watched from afar as City have followed in the footsteps of the Blues by spending heavily in the transfer market to turn themselves into one of the top sides in the country.

Since the takeover by Sheikh Mansour in 2008, the Citizens have spent over £500million on new players, with new manager Manuel Pellegrini splashing out £103million this summer alone on new recruits.

Mourinho believes City's spending power must make them the favourites to win the Premier League this season, claiming they have assembled a squad which contains two potentially title winning teams.

"You have to say that [City are favourites]," Mourinho told reporters.

"Pellegrini can win the title and he has the most important thing, which is an unbelievable squad of players.

"They are a very good team. They have two very good teams - one playing, and another one on the bench and in the stands. A fantastic squad and fantastic players, a really good team."
