Real bid to keep Chelsea target

Last Updated: Thu, 05 Dec 2013 12:53

Real Madrid are set to offer midfielder Sami Khedira a new contract in an attempt to fight off interest from Chelsea.

The German international starred in the Real side when Jose Mourinho was in charge at the Bernabeu and reports claim the Chelsea boss is keen to re-sign him as he looks to add a new holding midfielder to his ranks.

Khedira is under contract until 2015 but reports in Spain suggest Real could offer him a new extended contract to send a signal to Chelsea and also Manchester United, that he is not for sale.

Khedira is on the treatment table at the moment with a serious knee injury and could even miss next summer's World Cup, but that will not seemingly deter Mourinho should he decide to pursue a move in the January transfer window.
