Royals target Chelsea starlet

Reading are showing an interest in Chelsea's highly-rated young striker Islam Feruz with a view to taking him on loan.

The 17-year-old was born in Somalia but moved to Scotland when he was 10 and after progressing through the youth ranks at Celtic he moved to Stamford Bridge last year after refusing to sign a pro deal with the Hoops.

Feruz has gone from strength to strength since then and after scoring a hat-trick for the Scotland under-19s against Sweden he was fast-tracked into the Under-21s where he scored both goals in the 3-2 defeat to Portugal last Wednesday night.

Reading had scouts at that game and it is thought Brian McDermott will now make an approach to take him on loan when the transfer window re-opens.

Feruz impressed for Chelsea in the NextGen tournament when he scored Chelsea's first two goals in a 6-0 whitewash of Molde, and the Blues may feel a loan move could be the next step for him.

QPR, Barcelona and Sporting Lisbon also had scouts there so the Royals will have to move quickly to secure the player.
