Banks gets just reward - Roberts

Gary Roberts was pleased to see Ollie Banks' hard work come to fruition after the midfielder scored his first goals for the club.

Banks, signed from FC United of Manchester for an undisclosed fee in mid-September, netted either side of Armand Gnanduillet's strike as the Spireites romped into the Northern Area semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over their fellow Sky Bet League Two promotion hopefuls.

The 21-year-old former Rotherham trainee headed home Roberts' cross with virtually the last kick of the first half and then completed the scoring 11 minutes from time, lifting his shot from just inside the area over the advancing goalkeeper.

Roberts, who set up all three of Chesterfield's goals on Tuesday night, told Press Association Sport: "(He was) Man of the match and it's fully deserved because he worked his socks off.

"When we came into the dressing room at half-time he looked white because he'd done so much running! I couldn't believe it.

"I came from non-league football myself and to get a chance in the league is massive and he deserves it.

"He works hard on the training ground every day, he's always one of the last off it, because he wants to improve and get better.

"His performance was a credit to him and any praise he gets for it is totally earned."

Banks has made five appearances for Chesterfield in all competitions, starting the last three matches against Scunthorpe, Daventry and Rochdale.
