Coventry new boy Martin Cranie is eyeing a push for promotion after arriving from Portsmouth on a three-year deal.

The England Under-21 international defender has moved to the Ricoh Arena for an undisclosed fee and is already hoping to play his part in a successful season for the Sky Blues.

The 22-year-old, who goes straight into the squad to face Barnsley on Saturday at Oakwell, said: "I've been out on loan in the Championship before so I know what this league is all about.

"It's a bit more physical and frantic than the Premier League but it's still an exciting league to be in and hopefully I can help Coventry push towards promotion."

Coventry agreed a fee on Wednesday for Cranie who made just two Premier League appearances during his three years at Pompey.

He has spent time with both QPR and Charlton in the Championship.
