Ray Ranson is set to bankroll the signing of 10 new players and promised fans that Coventry will never be in a relegation battle again.

The Sky Blues escaped the drop to League One by the skin of their teeth on Sunday when they were crushed 4-1 at Charlton, but Leicester could only draw 0-0 at Stoke so went down instead. And Sky Blues owner, Ranson, insists he will put the funds in place to allow boss Chris Coleman to build his own side and ensure they are aiming for promotion next season.

He told the Coventry Telegraph: "The fans deserve better than that, because they have been terrific throughout and gave the team fantastic support. Against Wolves we had a crowd of almost 28,000 at the Ricoh and we took more than 3,000 down to Charlton.

"I hope that we can give them a team to shout about next season. And, while I am at this club, what happened over the last few months will never happen again. I fully expect to be competing at the other end of the table with the type of players we are looking to bring in this summer."

He added: "Having spoken to the manager, there will be major surgery with lots of comings and goings this summer. The work has already started and we want to revamp the whole squad from top to bottom."
