Sheffield Wednesday are set to battle it out with Coventry for the signature of Norwich midfielder Sammy Clingan.

The highly-rated 25-year-old still has 12 months to run on his current contract at Carrow Road but following relegation to League One, the Canaries admit he could be on the move.

Wednesday are in the hunt but reports claim that Coventry are favourites as they will offer striker Robbie Simpson as part of the deal.

Norwich would love to keep hold of the player but assistant manager Ian Butterworth admits that it will be a struggle.

"I think Sammy is an excellent player and could play at a higher level," he revealed. "Byran Gunn had a chat with the players at the end of the season and wanted to know their feelings towards Norwich City.

"But we have had a lot of interest in Sammy and one or two other players. We will have to see what is best for Norwich City and take it from there."
