Newcastle have completed the signing of Coventry City striker Leon Best after he penned a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Magpies boss Chris Hughton has been chasing a new striker and has finally landed his man after the player passed a medical and agreed terms this morning.

Best was due to fall out of contract in the summer and the Sky Blues have decided to cash in now rather than let him leave on a free transfer in the summer.

The fee has yet to be revealed but it is thought the Magpies have paid in the region of £500,000.

Best, who signed from Southampton in 2007, has played 29 appearances so far this season for the Sky Blues, scoring 10 goals.
