Steve not 'Kean' on Blues role

CoventryAssistant boss Steve Kean has confirmed he declined an offer to be Luiz Felipe Scolari's number two at Chelsea to stay on at Coventry.

It is understood Kean was selected by Scolari to be on his coaching team due to his ability to speak Portuguese following his stint in the country playing for Coimbra. And as Brazilian-born Scolari does not speak much English, Kean was set to play an important role in communicating between the new manager and his players at Stamford Bridge.

Kean said: "There was contact made from someone acting on behalf of Mr Scolari and when the contact came in I let Ray Ranson, our chairman at Coventry, and Chris Coleman aware of it straight away."

However Kean also confirmed that he is happy to stay with the Sky Blues and continue his working relationship with Chris Coleman.

He added on BBC Radio Scotland: "I don't think so, because the chairman has stated that I've got a contract and I'm happy with the project we've got at Coventry."
