Crewe boss Steve Davis admitted his players were hurting after Stevenage bounced back to inflict the Railwaymen's first home league defeat since October.
Chuks Aneke looked to have put the Alex on track for their fifth straight League One victory when he swept home on the half-hour mark.
But Boro netted twice in five minutes after the break through Lucas Akins and Marcus Haber to stun Crewe and end their three-game losing run.
"The players are all down and very quiet which is brilliant to see," said Davis. "They expect to play games and win now which is a great change of attitude over a short period of time.
"I was more than happy with the performance. It was good enough to win the game, we just lost control for a short period in the second half and that cost us.
"We've got a never-say-die attitude at the club and we will work hard and I have confidence we will put it right.
"There's more to come from this team. Our second-half of the season is always stronger and I believe they can get better."
Davis added: "There is nothing in this league, we have shown we are every bit as good ad as Stevenage and Tranmere and if we can improve a little then we will go on more winning runs."
