Steve Davis is hoping new Crewe loanee George Evans' mere presence can help inspire his team to move out of the Sky Bet League One relegation zone.

The Alex have endured a season with more downs than ups so far having suffered heavy defeats to Swindon, Notts County and Fleetwood in a difficult campaign.

However, Davis is hoping his new recruit, brought in on a three-month deal from Barclays Premier League outfit Manchester City, can make a big impact.

Crewe utilised the loan market to excellent effect last year, bringing the likes of Bradden Inman in from Newcastle and Chuks Aneke from Arsenal en route to winning the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, and Davis is hopeful the arrival of teenager Evans can galvanise his troops in a similar fashion.

"George was eager to get out and play some games," he told the Alex's official website.

"He is a determined and ambitious young man and very mature for his age. He has had a good grounding from his family and from being at Manchester City for a long time and you see how driven he is.

"He is a good player. We have watched him for the Under-21s and I've spoken to three members of the City staff about him and what he can offer us. He is a good size, competes and is technically good on the ball.

"We'll see how he does this week before deciding if we are going to throw him straight in against Bradford.

"We think he will offer us something better in midfield and hopefully he will give others a boost. He may help those in the team with his performances and in another way, he may spur those not in the team to perform better to get back in.

"It worked well last season with Lauri Dalle Valle, Brad Inman and Chuks Aneke coming in on loan. They gave everyone a lift and it worked out well and we are hoping for the same sort of reaction from signing George."
